Byron K Nelson

Byron K Nelson joined Rosemary, the love of his life, on August 11, 2021 after having a wonderful fulfilling life. 

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. 

Byron was born May 13, 1942 in Provo, Utah to Byron Charles and Wayla Johnson Nelson. 

He was the second born of 3 children. 

Byron graduated from Provo high school then continued his education at UCLA in California. 

He proudly served in the United States Army. 

Byron married Lynnette Slaughter and had 5 children. 

He then married Rosemary Hekker and had twin daughters. Rosemary passed away in 2003 and he always knew one day he would be reunited with her. 

Byron enjoyed a career as a computer programmer working many years for Kennecott, Hercules and retiring from Blue Cross and Blue Shield. 

Byron loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling the world. 

He spent a lot of time in Montana and enjoyed his many trips to the wine country in California and raved about his trips to Yellowstone with his family. 

At home he loved attending the University of Utah football games and watching college sports. 

Byron always said when he grew up he wanted to be a cowboy and was one at heart. He collected John Wayne and Roy Rogers memorabilia and loved watching their western movies. 

Byron's true joy was his family and took pride in being a husband, father and grandfather. He loved telling his friends and neighbors about his children and grandchildren, it was never lost that he adored each and everyone of them and was proud of their every accomplishment. 

Byron was preceded in death by parents Byron Kent and Wayla Johnson Nelson, brother Nash Nelson, his wife Rosemary Nelson, son Scott Nelson, son-in-law Ron Hoogveldt and grandson Christopher Zoellner. 

Byron is survived by sister Jesselyn (Jim), children Carrie, Mark (Cheri), Craig, Stacey, Jessie (Jeremy), Sarah (Eric), 15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren with 1 on the way.
