Caren Kirkwood Johnson

1942 ~ 2011
Caren Kirkwood Johnson, our loving wife, mother and grandmother, 69, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on July 26, 2011.
She was born March 29, 1942 to Clarence and Bernice Kirkwood at her great-grandma's home in Orem.
A graduate of Provo High School in 1960, she was a good student, a graduate of seminary and a member of the pep squad. She met her eternal companion, Martell Johnson, and later married him in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 9, 1961. They were blessed with 9 children whom she loved unconditionally.
Caren enjoyed collecting dolls, traveling to Mexico and abroad, and gardening. She loved spending time with her family, and was so proud of her grandchildren, and attended every one of their baptisms.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings, including Scouting, Primary, Young Women, Ward Historian, Relief Society and most recently a young single adult leader. She was a dedicated visiting teacher throughout her life, and touched the lives of every person she knew.
She worked at the Provo Bakery in her early married life, where she developed a passion for cooking and baking. Later she helped her husband run a successful family business for several years. It was there that her children learned the importance of hard work and to enjoy family responsibility.
She is survived by her husband, Martell and 8 children: Darin (Liz) Johnson Orem, UT; Lonnie (Virginia) Johnson Orem, UT; Sherry (Steve) Sanders Powell, WY; Jared (Heidi) Johnson Ft Bridger, WY; Sharla (David) Warner Bremerton, WA; Cory (Shilo) Johnson Orem, UT; Kyle (Heather) Johnson Orem, UT; and Shantell Johnson Pocatello, ID; and twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Linda Davies, a brother, Kevin Kirkwood, a son, Jason, and a granddaughter Shaylee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lakeview Ward Chapel, 1680 North Geneva Road, Provo.
