James Nate Batty

Obituary for James Nate Batty

With a heavy heart, we share the news of the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, and friend, James Nate Batty. Nate peacefully left this world on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.

Born on September 2, 1941, in Wallsburg, Utah, Nate was the son of the late James Delton and Susanna Parcell Batty. On September 6, 1963, he married the love of his life, Merlene Herman, in Provo, Utah. Nate worked as a General Contractor for many years before owning Nate’s Diner in Provo until his retirement in 2017. He cherished spending time with family and friends, whether venturing to the Sand Dunes or visiting Utah Lake to feed the ducks. Nate’s selfless nature endeared him to all who crossed his path, as he gave his all to others and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Above all, his greatest joy came from his grandchildren, and he took immense pride in every one of them.

Nate is survived by his two children, Brent (Shuling) Batty of Provo and Kenny (Kristi) Batty of Payson. He is also survived by his bonus daughter and dear sweet friend, Terri (John) Taylor, as well as thirteen grandchildren: JD, Trent, Makenna, Jake, Gabrielle, Braxton, McLain, Lindsey, Tyeson, Mitchell, Brady, Kayleah, and Brooklyn. Furthermore, he leaves behind eight great-grandchildren. His brother, Miles (Nyleen) Batty of Lindon, Utah also mourns his loss.

Nate now joins his dear wife in heaven, as they are reunited after being apart for 20 years. Although we will miss him dearly every day, we find comfort in the knowledge that he is again in the company of his loved ones who have gone before him.

Funeral services to celebrate Nate’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the LDS church house at 376 North 700 West, Provo, Utah. Before the service, friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, located at 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah.
