Jim Bowen

JAMES ARTHUR BOWEN

James Arthur Bowen, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at Desert Cross Lutheran Church, 8600 S McClintock Dr, Tempe on Sunday, March 3rd, 2019 at 1pm.

Jim was born January 28th, 1942 in Ashland, Kentucky to James and Edna Bowen. The family moved to Orem, Utah when Jim was just a young boy. He was the 3rd of 5 children. He loved growing up in the country and getting into a little trouble too. One of his proudest accomplishments, as a youth, was earning his Eagle Scout Award. He graduated from Provo High School in 1960 and started a family shortly thereafter. A budding career in sales provided new adventures for his family. Once he found his passion for pure water equipment sales, it turned into a lifelong career that he enjoyed through retirement in 2016. Along the way, his career brought him to Tempe, Arizona where he met the love of his life, his wife, Nancy. Through faith and love, they blended their families together in April 1990 and began the journey of a lifetime.

Jim may have been a man of few words, but he was never short on love. He prided himself in being involved in his children’s activities whether it was coaching or cheering from the sidelines and continued this tradition with his grandchildren’s activities. Jim had a strong faith in the Lord. He found his home in the Desert Cross Lutheran Church community where he enjoyed singing in church choir, participating in Christ Care bible study and ushering at church services. His calling to help others led him to join the men and youth mission groups in building homes in Mexico. Jim led by example. His strong work ethic, quiet understanding, continued presence, and his love for family have been passed down and shine through each of us.

Jim is preceded in death by parents James and Edna, sister Ann Johnson, daughters Dayna and Michelle.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children James Tyler, Shauna (Scott) Pederson, Adrian (Nichole), Lisa (Kevin) Irick, Steve (Tina) Culbertson, and Mike (Kendra) Culbertson; grandchildren Jim (Lacey), Erik (Krystal), Jillian (Anthony), Skyler, Meredith, Emily, Jacob, Brian, Trent, Shea, Brennan, and Matthew; great-grandsons Jackson, Joshua, and Julian; sisters Tomi Bibb and Donna (Joe) Garcia, brother Dale (Jorgette), and many nieces and nephews.
