Robert Paul Leonard
December 2, 1941 - January 23, 2025
Murray - Robert Paul Leonard (83), beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 23, 2025, in Murray, Utah, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born to Clair and Blanche Leonard in Salt Lake City, Utah, Robert married Janet Liddiard in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the Army Reserve and was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
From a very early age, Robert was a great athlete. He won the All-Around Athlete award at Provo High School and competed in several state championships in football, baseball, and wrestling. He won 2nd place for the State of Utah in wrestling and was captain of the high school football team.
Robert attended the University of Utah and later became a licensed architect. He worked for numerous architectural firms, starting his career at the firm of Fred Markham. Robert dedicated over 20 years to the Davis County School District as director of new construction and later ended his career with FFKR Architects. He was passionate and meticulous in his profession and was known for his attention to detail. One of the projects he was most proud of was his work on the original design of the Washington D.C. Temple.
He enjoyed researching family history, and was active in politics, serving as a Republican Party delegate several times. Robert also loved fishing, hunting, camping, and taking long vacations with his family.
Robert is preceded in death by his sister, Norma Jean Whitworth (brother-in-law, Ray Whitworth), and daughter-in-law, Janet Ericson Leonard. He is survived by his wife, Janet; brother, Richard (Sharley); sister, Lynette (Doug); sons, Scott (Janet), Darin (Leesa), and Ryan; daughter, Lisa (Eric); and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Murray 1st Ward, 755 East Three Fountains Circle, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at the church from 6-8 PM and on Saturday from 10-10:45 AM preceding the funeral. Interment services will be at Salem City Cemetery at 2:30 PM, 150 East 1000 South, Salem, Utah. Cannon Mortuary Funeral Directors.
