Nina Wood (Payne) VIEW PROFILE

Nina Elaine Wood Payne, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, passed away on October 25, 2023 in Lindon, Utah at the age of 81.

Nina was born on July 19, 1942 to Oral Edwin Wood and Winona Darlene Daley Wood in Denver, Colorado. She attended various schools in Fort St. James, British Columbia, Canada and Utah. Nina graduated from Provo High School in 1960. She attended Brigham Young University for a semester while living in her parents' home near campus. It was there she met her future husband, Richard William Payne. He rented a room in the basement of the home. It was love at first sight for both of them. After a short courtship, Nina and Dick were married in the Manti Utah temple on July 7, 1961. They had four children, Marcus Graham Payne, Dirk Richard Payne, Marde Payne Christensen, and Brian William Payne. Nina and Dick lived in Porterville, California for 26 years and raised their family there. Upon Dick's retirement as an educator in 1991 they returned to Utah Valley and soon built Nina's dream home in Lindon. Nina had many talents and hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, camping, and especially loved working outside in her yard and garden. Nina was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities throughout her life. Most of all, Nina cherished her family. She loved being a wife and mother. Her main focus in life was loving and supporting her husband and nurturing and caring for her children. She was dedicated and successful at providing a warm, loving home for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her parents, siblings, and extended family as well. She organized many reunions over the years for the Wood family, even writing and publishing several reunion keepsake booklets for each family. Nina was preceded in death by parents Oral and Winona; Forest (grandson); Dirk (son); Kelly (brother), June (sister). Nina is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Dick (Lindon, UT); children Marc (Lehi, UT), Marde (Smithfield, UT), Brian (Provo, UT) and their spouses; siblings Blaine (Springville, UT), Dennis (Lehi, UT), Brent (Orem, UT) and their spouses, as well as 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 am (live stream on olpinmortuary.com) in the Lindon Tenth Ward LDS Chapel, 1051 East 200 South, Lindon where family and friends may attend viewing from 9:00-10:45 am prior to funeral services. Interment will be later that day in the Fillmore City Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Services under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
