I worked at the telephone company after high school and taking business office classes at the vocational school. Gordon Thornton married me in 1962 in the Manti Temple . After BYU he started his career in the telephone business in Richfield, Utah. I worked at the Forest Service and BLM offices respectively until our first child was born. I turned in my retirement and bought a washer and dryer. Two sons were born during our 5 years there. We lived in Las Vegas for four years with one child being born. We were transferred to Iowa for four years and added two more sons to our family. Three more years in Charlottesville, Va (our favorite place). While in Hickory, NC for four years our only girl finally was born, our southern belle. After two years in the Chicago area, Schaumburg, we were finally transferred back to Las Vegas where we have lived for 25 years.
Besides rearing 6 children we have been active in the LDS church wherever we have been and I feel like it has been my education for homemaking, psychology, sports, camping, administration, loyalty to husband (support),teaching and music for which I am very grateful.
Those years at Provo High School were good for me. My life was very full and fun--even the time I participated in extemperaneous speaking for Mr. Jones in the speech department and circulated around to the high schools in our region. I was scared to death and still am uncomfortable with giving a talk. Mr. Jones was great. Remember the play "Our Town"?
My closest friends were Marilyn Hall and Kathy Davis. Diane Lund moved in during our high school years and she became our fourth in our foursome. We were good friends as well as partners in crime. The years have faded the memories but I can remember the good feelings we had towards each other and I can only remember some of the stupid things I did. We had such exciting football and basketball games. Being in the Pep Club our last year was so fun. Twirling the baton in parades and extra activities was a plus. Oh and the dances. Weren't they fun. How about that sock hop? And the special dressy affair called Aurora. I loved it all. Thanks to the committees through the years who have made such great reunions happen. Thanks to those who live in the Provo area who have spent the time and energy to make this Fiftieth such a great experience
